Century egg in Hong Kong.

Smelled like something that died twice.

Still ate it. Regret? Maybe. Memory? Unforgettable.

Smelled like something that died twice — poetry, sir.

Tried fried tarantula in Cambodia on a dare. It was crunchy, furry, and my soul left my body for a full 7 seconds. Tasted like burnt popcorn with a hint of midlife crisis.

Fermented shark in Iceland, known as hákarl, is often cited as one of the most challenging foods globally. I tried it during a culinary research trip. The ammonia smell was overpowering, but it was culturally enlightening. Not enjoyable in a traditional sense, but definitely valuable as an experience.

I tried balut in the Philippines — fertilized duck egg. Nutrient-dense and historically significant. For me, the texture was difficult: half-formed bones, yolk, and broth in one bite.Respect to the tradition, but personally, I couldn't finish it.

Одного разу я їв салат із медузами в Китаї, вважаючи, що це локшина.
Хрустіло, як смуток і гумки. Я посміхнувся, як заручник на кулінарному шоуангел

In Peru, I tasted cuy (roasted guinea pig). It's a traditional delicacy, high in protein and lean meat.
The taste was somewhat similar to rabbit, with crispy skin and earthy flavor.
Unusual by Western standards, but quite popular and culturally significant.

During field research in Southeast Asia, I tried sago grub larvae — raw.
They’re packed with fat and energy, often consumed by indigenous communities.
The taste? Creamy, nutty, and mildly sweet. Surprisingly not bad, once you get past the “wriggle.”

Snail caviar.
Yes, that’s a thing. Yes, I paid for it.
Tasted like someone whispered "salt" into a spoonful of sadness.
My wallet still cries when I remember.

In Japan, I tried natto — fermented soybeans. The smell is strong, the texture slimy, and it's polarizing. Nutritionally excellent, but it’s an acquired taste I’m still… acquiring. Would I eat it again? Professionally, yes. Voluntarily, with hesitation.

In Sardinia, I studied a controversial cheese called Casu Marzu, which contains live maggots.
The flavor is intense, pungent, and spicy. It’s technically illegal in many places but still consumed traditionally.
I tried it for research. Not my favorite cheese, but unforgettable in every way.

Imagine the cheese fights back. No thanks))

This cheese has more mobility than I do after leg day...
